 Director's Corner.....

 Thank You!

As I watched last week's graduation ceremonies for the Prepa and 1st graders, Grades 5 and 6, and then finally the high school seniors on Friday night I kept being reminded of what a terrific school we have. The slide shows, the smiles, and the speeches given by the students were beautiful and poignant reminders that our school is about our kids, not us. No matter how much we plan and push and try and guide them, in the end it is all about the relationships they have built with their teachers and each other. They remember the joy they felt spending time with their friends and how special their teachers became to them. They expressed how they felt valued and how their learning experience was directly affected by those feelings. It was especially evident in the students that have been at CDSG for many years. Those students have seen the school go through many changes throughout the years, but the one constant was the relationships they built with the teachers and their close friends that they shared the classrooms with during those years. Our senior class made that very clear as they each gave their speeches and looked out over the audience through tear filled eyes as they realized their years at CDSG were not only amazing, but coming to an end. The nurturing small school culture will be very hard to duplicate as they head out to major colleges and universities abroad and in Costa Rica, but hopefully we have provided an environment that not only brought out the best in them academically but provided them with the personal skills and confidence to help guide them through their young adult years. If a school is to be judged by the students it sends out into the world then this year's class of 2010 should be outstanding ambassadors. Great job teachers and thank you to all of the parents that supported the school during the many years your graduates attended. May your children return one day to address future graduating classes and tell us stories of their amazing and successful adventures. Go Pirates!
