NEW TEACHERS AT CDSG FOR NEXT YEAR

To the CDSG community

From Bob Trent, Director

Re: staffing for CDSG for next year

I have recently returned from the international hiring fairs in the U.S. and have completed our hiring for next year. I want to share a bit about each of the new teachers and give you an overview of who will be teaching what next year.

New Director is Jeff Haun, current Director of the American International School of Vilnius Lithuania.

Pre-K and Kinder will continue with the same teacher and assistant as this year, Miss Marisol and Andrea.

First grade and Prep will be taught by Sarah Haun, wife of the new director. She is an experienced lower elementary teacher and elementary coordinator.

Second grade will be taught by Caroline Braganza, current first grade teacher.

Third and Fourth combo class will be taught by Joe Kirschner, currently a third grade teacher at our Escazu campus.

Fifth grade will be taught by Allie Davidow, currently teaching 4th grade at our Escazu campus. Both Joe and Allie are from California.

Sixth grade will be taught by Eric Bragg from California. He worked with new director Jeff Haun in Morocco and in California and was highly recommended by Mr. Haun. He will also be head of the boarding program.

Art will be taught by Susanne Katus from New York, graduating this spring from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She is an art history and archeology major and has studied in Paris and Prague and traveled extensively. She has experience working with younger children.

Upper level math (Calculus, pre-calculus, advanced algebra, trig) will be taught by Tom Regele from suburban Boston. Tom has taught in the same high school since 1996, doing upper level classes. He has his BA in math from Worchester State and his Masters from Northeastern in Boston. He served a number of years in the military before entering teaching. He has coached various sports, sponsored the National Honor Society, and given presentations to teachers in other schools on math and technology.

Upper level English (10-12 plus AP) will be taught by Brijin Hales (Brijin rhymes with pigeon!) She has taught in the U.S., in Aruba, and now in Bombay, India. She has undergrad and graduate degrees from Alabama. In addition to teaching all levels of high school English, AP and IB, she is coming from an all-laptop school, has done SAT prep, speech, creative writing, yearbook, theater, coached volleyball, and made presentations to other teachers in teaching creative writing. She has worked with poetry slams, literary cafes, and literary magazines in high schools.

Returning upper school teachers will include the Sluzkies, the Baldwins, Sam Berey, Gaylord Townley, Jon Hanson, Monica Riascos, Roxanna Rojas, Ivette Gomez and Neida Pena.

We have hired three new dorm counselors who will also participate in school activities and classes including sports, music, drama, and tutoring. We also expect to add a new Spanish teacher.

If we have any updates to this list, I will keep you informed. Enrollment is also looking good in all grades for next year. As for combined classes like prep/first and third/fourth, we will continue our policy of adjusting the classes as enrollment increases during the year.

Best wishes,
Bob Trent
School Director
