| Director's Corner |

The news is back on track after a week away. I was unable to get out the news last week while I was away to the Tri-Association conference in San Jose. Along with five of our teachers I had an enjoyable time meeting with other teachers and directors of international schools from Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. The difficult part was getting there and back because of the rains. I hear that this is the worst rainy season in over 60 years and we're still not done! I must admit though, I still like the weather here, even when it's raining, because it's warm. I am also happy to report that our basketball teams not only made it back safely, but they also made a great impression on the other schools participating in the tournament. I am so proud of how they represented themselves. How they act says much more about their character, (and about our coaches!), than how they play. But they played well too, and that's the cherry on top. Please see Coach Townley's article below. Be sure and thank Sam, Bree, Gaylord, and Carol for all of their hard work and the excellent role models that they have been for our kids.

| Goodbye to Michael Richardson |
I'd like to take this opportunity to say goodbye and thank you to Michael Richardson. Michael has been a counselor for our boarding students since school began this year. Michael's energy, positive outlook, and enthusiastic pursuit of living have been inspiring to us all. In addition to working with the boarding students he also has been teaching music and drama on Fridays to all of our students. They are going to miss him most of all. We all wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. I'm predicting that we'll be seeing him on the next American Idol competition and that in a few years he'll be a star with his own action figure and workout video. All the best to you Mikey!

Next week will mark our annual Halloween celebration. We will have a party, haunted house, and trick or treating. The teachers and students are busy planning a great time for everyone so please join us and you'll have a frighteningly good time.

| Health Education |
I am going to set aside time each week for our students in the middle and upper school to participate in a health class. I think it is important for them to have the opportunity to learn and discuss issues related to their health and well being at this age. Our kids are especially vulnerable to disease and other health risks in regards to substance abuse, mental and emotional issues, and sexual activity. Providing a forum for them to learn about how their behavior affects their personal well being will hopefully help them to make good choices when they find themselves in situations confusing and difficult situations. I am now looking for a qualified teacher. I welcome any suggestions that you might have.

| AASCA Basketball Tournament |
Thank you to everyone who supported our varsity teams' trip to Panama. It took a lot of effort and money from everyone involved, but the experience is something that is truly enriching. Above all, thank you to our athletes for their exemplary attitude and behavior, both on and off the court. It's these kinds of positive student outcomes that help us realize that AASCA events are worthwhile endeavors. Jessi Cutis led a young girls' team in some very exciting and close games. The girls' support and enthusiasm was a key factor in helping the boys' team secure third place in the tournament. Seniors Connor Neigenfind and Jacob Dole were outstanding, and they provided valuable leadership for the boys' team. I'm especially proud of our boys' team for winning the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament - another shining example of CDSG attitude and behavior. Thank you again, Gaylord Townley

| The New Parking Stickers Are Here! |
As a way to improve school safety and help our security guards to more quickly identify parents and employees of the school, we have ordered special school stickers. These stickers are available in the school office and look exactly like our logo on this newsletter. They can easily be attached to the inside of the windshield on the driver's side of the vehicle. They will allow the security guards to quickly see if a vehicle is a parent or employee car or more importantly if it is not. They cost 5,000 clones each and may be purchased in the front office from Katia. All profits of the sale of the stickers will go towards the purchase of a road sign that would advertise all of our school events. I would like to put the sign up on the road in front of the commercial center for everyone driving by to see. Everyone should be aware of all of the great things our school is doing. So the sooner you buy the stickers, the sooner I can look for a sign.

| Baseball |
As you all know, aside from futbol, there is really only one other truly magical sport in the world and that is beisbol. So I think it is very important that we do our best to try and start a baseball team for our elementary students. I have talked with Mr. Rothman, Sebastian's father, who shares my love for the game and he also wants to start a regular practice. No date or location has been set yet, but it will probably be something like a regular Saturday time to come together and practice and play. There is a lovely patch of grass behind the Happy Snapper that I have heard might be available to us. If anyone else is interested in participating let me know. We need players (ages 7-10), coaches, and equipment. Mr. Rothman has some catchers equipment, but we'll need to gather as many gloves and baseballs as we can find. My hope is that we can get enough equipment to be able to invite local kids in Brasilito to come and play with us. Please email me or stop by. I'll get back to you all as soon as I see what the response is.

| Thursday Soccer Update |
By the way, if you want to see something cool, stop by the gym and soccer field on Thursday afternoon and watch the soccer practices going on with our younger kids. It is really terrific. Be sure to tell Coach Mel (Mrs. Snow), Ms. Jamie and Ms. Julieta what a great job they're doing!
