What a busy week it's been. Wednesday we had a big celebration for our kids, Thursday we had one for the adults, and then big soccer game on campus today for everyone to cheer. All of those things in addition to all of the activities that make up a typical week for us; and of course the fun never stops. Next week kids will begin raising support for our Read-A-Thon to raise money to buy local school children supplies to begin the new school year in January. We will also have our Thanksgiving donations (Remember the feathers your kids brought home?) to support a vision impaired family in 27 de Abril (the town). Baseball will also continue this weekend a little earlier than usual, 8:30, because it will be followed by adult softball leagues that are open to all who would like to play. So bring the kids and then plan to stay, if you're willing, and play softball with us and others from around the area. I'm sure it will be followed by some good food and drinks at the Happy Snapper afterwards. This was just a great week in so many ways and I'm looking forward to a gorgeous weekend on the baseball field, on the boat, and on the golf course, not a bad trio. Be sure and read below about all of the great things that took place last week and all of the cool stuff coming up. Have a great weekend and tell someone how proud you are to be a CDSG Pirate! AAaaaargh!

| National Honor Society Dinner |
|
Kim Baldwin did an amazing job planning for our National Honor Society induction ceremony. It was a beautiful and elegant evening. Thank you also to Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Berey, and Mr. Regele for participating. We are so proud of our NHS students and Jr. NHS students. These students represent all that CDSG wants our students to strive for, high academic achievement, honorable behavior, service, and community involvement. We are so proud of them and their parents have every right to walk a little taller this year and be openly proud of their wonderful children. Congratulations to all of you.

| Open House for the Community |
|
Our first annual Open House for the community went extremely well thanks to a combined effort of our school grounds crew led by our new operations manager, Vera. A special thanks to the good people from the Melia Conchal Resort for providing all of the beautiful linens, tables and other items that made the night so elegant. We had about 50 people in attendance and they were full of questions about the school and said they were glad to finally get a chance to come out and see the campus. Of course they were all impressed with how beautiful our campus is when we took them on a tour. Thank you to all of the parents who came and supported the event as well. It was such a success that we thought we might have another one in the spring, we 'll see, I'm tired.

| School Pictures |
|
Don't forget, school and class pictures will be taken on Tuesday. Be sure to dress the kids up in their clean uniforms, if you have any left, I know my family doesn't! Pictures will be taken throughout the day.

| Junior Pirates Soccer |
|
Thanks to Coach Mel, Jamie, Mr. Townsend and our referees Mr. Joe and Mr. Eric for helping us put on another soccer game for our elementary students. Our kids got to experience what it was like playing boys twice their size today. Scary stuff for some of them. Lots of scrapes and bruises and bumps as balls came at them harder than they'd ever seen. But they were brave and fought valiantly to the end. I'm so proud of our Junior Pirates. They definitely play better every time I watch them. Fight on Pirates! We hope to have another game the Wednesday before Thanksgiving break. I'll let you know when and if the game is official.

Pirate Baseball at the Snapper

Don't forget that baseball will begin on Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in Brasilito in the field behind the Happy Snapper. We had our first after school practice on Tuesday and it was fantastic! We have some good ball players. But where were the girls? Come on girls, I know there are some super girls out there who should be out playing. The bottom line is that we had a lot of fun and laughed and ran and threw and hit the baseball in freshly mowed green grass...ahhh. It just doesn't get any better than that. I hope to see more kids out on Saturdays. ALL AGES WELCOME. We've got enough equipment and spact to have a couple of groups playing. Play ball!
Late note: We had 15 players come out last Saturday and we had so much fun! Please come join us next week.
If you're interested CDSG teachers are interested in forming a softball team for next week at Snapper Field at 11:00. Coed teams from Tamarindo and Portrero will be coming to play as well. If you'd like to join us tell me or Gaylord. It should be aa lot of fun and we have all of the equipment.

| Thansgiving Giving |
|
Your child should come home with a feather this week or next. Please buy the item listed on the feather and send it to school by Wednesday, November 19th. All items will be put in a basket that will be given to three families in time for Thanksgiving. Each family includes a family member who is blind and could really benefit from our generosity.

| Read-A-Thon Coming! |
We will be holding our first annual, all school Readathon on December 5th. All students will be asking for pledges based on the number of pages they read on December 5th. Please support them by pledging to donate 50 or 100 Colones per page, for example. You can also donate a fixed amount. All CDSG students will read together on December 5th for one hour. Afterwards, they will collect their pledge money and all money will be turned in and donated to the CEPIA backpack and school supply drive. Needy students in our area will receive the items they need to begin school in February. Please look for information to come home next week regarding the Readathon. We will also need parent volunteers to read with the younger students. See Sarah or Jamie if you are interested in volunteering!

| Remember To Wear Your Uniforms.... |
|
This is a reminder that it a school rule that students wear their school uniforms to school everyday, unless they have a parent note signed with the reason for not having a uniform that day. We want to keep up the image of our school and wearing the CDSG uniform is a requirement. Students coming to school wearing other clothing looks sloppy and it undermines our ability to enforce all of our school rules. We are not too rigid but we do expect everyone to adhere to our policies. If they know we are serious about the small things, they will respect our rules about the more important things. If students show up out of uniform they may be asked to remain in the school office until a parent can bring the proper uniform or until a parent can be contacted and excused due to extraordinary circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation.
