We sure know how to stay busy here at Country day don't we? This letter is late again becasue i'm having trouble keeping up with everything! But it's great to have so much going on and seeing how great our kids are whether performing on the stage, doing well in the classroom, or simply reading a book for an hour during a read-a-thon. Thank you to all of the parents that have been participating in so many of our events. Today's Christmas show will bring even more parents out to sing alog as wee I'm sure. So as we count down to the holidays and finish our mid term exams keep smiling and get ready to relax for a few weeks. You've earned it! You have helped us to get off to an amazing start and now we see the first semester coming to an end and I couldn't be more pleased with the results so far. And we even have 20-25 new applicants for next semester. If they all show up on the 12th we'll have to have a special orientation just for them. I'm looking forward to it.

READ-A-THON SUCCESS!
CDSG! THE PLACE READ!
Now it's time to pay your pledges and get the money in to the classroom teachers, please!
The numbers aren't officially in yet, but the intial reports re that our first annual read-a-thon to support CEPIA and it's goal to raise $6,000 in order to give 400 local students enough school supplies to begin school next year was a huge success. We had over one hundred readers including all of our elementary students, teachers, high school students, parents, and best of all we had about 20 4th and 5th grade guests from Brasilito school. All over the elementary school kids and and their 'reading buddies" were reading alone, in pairs and in groups. What was also exciting was to hear them reading in English AND Spanish. Our high school Spanish students were there volunteering to read with our Costa Rican studnets. So thank you to all of you who participated and volunteered and planned this event. You should all be proud of yourselves. Also don't forget to look for the article in next week's edition Beach Times. They were kind enough to send someone over to report on the event. Great job again to all of the teachers and to Sarah and Jamie for working so hard to get it off the ground. I am sure this will be an annual event that CDSG can be proud of.

Fundraiser for Escuela de Guardia's Special Education Program
Below is a letter from the National Honor Society, a group of students that I am so proud of, as I wrote about in last week's newsletter. They are helping gather items to sell at a garage sale in three weeks to raise money for a new classroom to support children with special needs. As you may or may not know, Sarah and I were special education teachers before leaving to work overseas, so this project means a lot to us personally. And who can resist a good garage sale? Not me, so read on and go clean out your closets and garages, if you have one, and bring the items to school so that we can pass them on to the NHS and then on to Escuela de Guardia. Dear CDSG- Community,
The Department of Special Education of the Escuela de Guardia is organizing a garage sale. The purpose of this fundraiser is to improve the conditions of the space that was given to them in order to give their children better attention and support, as well as to acquire didactive material. This is why the National Honor Society is asking for your aid with the donation of clothes and any objects to sell at the event on Sunday, December 14th of this year. Please bring your donations to Mrs. Baldwin's room, Margarita's office or the library.

Costa Rican Baccalaureate
I would like to remind you that CDSG not only prepares students for colleges and universities in the United States but also for Costa Rica. We are fully accredited the MEP, Ministry of Public Education in Costa Rica and students are able to prepare for taking the tests to qualify for the Baccalaureate. This is just as much of an honor as being accepted to colleges and universities abroad, but students need to decide early on in high school if they are going to do this in order to meet certain testing deadlines. So I encourage all of you parents who are considering this to let us know as soon as you know. Muchas Gracias!

Take a minute and click on the link to our new summer program we are calling "Reef to Rain Forest" or "R2R" for short. It is a two week program that takes students all over Costa Rica learning about the environment and the incredible biodiversity of this great country. It is also a chance to earn a paritial credit for science and Spanish for those participants looking to add to their resumes. Just click on the link at the top of this newsletter and then send me an email to tell me what you think and also if you have ideas about how we can promote this new program. Students from all over are invited to join us. We hope CDSG students and students from around the globe will participate in this exciting new program.
