Director's Corner

Hope you enjoyed your Semana Santa break. Spring break always brings with it the promise of warm rains and the fact that school is quickly coming to a close. We have only 7 weeks remaining but we have a year's worth of activities planned in those 7 weeks! We have plays, a coffee house evening, the Beach Challenge, Earth Day activities, more poker evenings, Awards Ceremonies, more soccer games and a swim competion tomorrow, more baseball games on Saturdays, AP exams, SAT exams, 6th grade and 12th grade graduation ceremonies, and a trip to Washigton D.C. with Mr. Berey. OK, take a breath, we can do it. We're heading towards summer with bang and a roar like we should. After a year like this what will you do with yourselves all summer? Seriously, we do have lots of great activities coming up and I hope to see you out there at all of them. Our kids have worked hard in the classroom and out on the playing field in order to do their best and make all of you proud, so you are obligated to come out and show your support.
Important Notice: we have the college counselor from Escazu campus, Anna Oliveras, coming to visit our school on Tuesday and Wednesday next week in order to meet with parents and students of 11/12th graders. Please call or come in to make an appointment for any time Wednesday.

Elementary Lock-In
The elementary students had a "Lock-In" a couple of weeks ago where they all stayed the night and watched movies and played games and ate together at school. It was so much fun that it inspired this amazing fictional recollection of the evening by two of our sixth graders. I hope you enjoy!.
Jan Lerch (w/inspiration by Omar Garcia) ESL Grade 6 26.03.2009 Prison for a Night Last Friday, March 20, the 3-6 graders were locked in a prison called CDSG. The NHS guards locked us in for no reason at all. We were just common students who committed no crime. The first thing they did, was that they made us do field work for hours. They finally gave us pizza, but we thought that it was poison. After that we celebrated a prisoner's birthday. Then they made us watch a Pre-K movie as educational propaganda. After all those horrible things, they locked us in Mr. Joe's room to go to sleep. The girls were locked in the library. It was a long night. You couldn't sleep, because if you did the other prisoners would do pranks on you. If you would try to escape, the NHS guards would catch you. The girls had similar problems. Then, in the middle of the night, in desperation some prisoners threw a stink bomb at who they thought was a guard. The explosion was huge and it woke everyone up. The smell was horrible. It smelled like rotten eggs or burning sulfur. One of the bad NHS guards walked in and screamed at us, and he started hitting us with invisible sticks. After that he put us into different cells. Then he spread sleeping gas inside and we finally fell asleep. It seemed a very short time had passed when the guards woke us up and made us go to work. They wanted to make us work, but we grabbed dodge balls and started to attack them. After a fight of 2 hours the NHS guards finally defeated us. Later, our parents came and while they were paying them bill they gave us breakfast. Then we finally got released by the warden. It was one of the funniest jails we've ever been in. I hope we can go next year. Maybe we could make it a two night prison sentence. To the guards and warden: thank you and please send the 7th grade next year.
