Director's Corner

Welcome back to school. I hope you all enjoyed your summer break. We are starting out as busy as ever. We've already had our upper school Student Government speeches and elections, student "Ice Breaker" event, and will have a "Twin Day" dress up on Friday.
We will of course have a full menu of activities throughout the year as we do every year. You are encouraged and welcomed to participate and volunteer to help with as many events as you would like. We will announce all of our activities throughout the year. We have also just completed a calendar that has scheduled events listed throughout the year along with the usual list of holidays.
I would also like to welcome all of our new student teachers from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. We have four teachers in our elementary, two in the upper school and one student teaching in PE. Please say hello and welcome them.
Welcome also to Andrew Johnstone our new upper school math teacher. He comes to us from Brooklyn and we're glad to have him. He will also be coaching varsity basketball.
Let's look forward to a great year!

Mano a Mano Needs Your Help!
Last year at CDSG we started an activity called Mano a Mano or Hand in Hand. Mano a Mano is a volunteer, community service organization which started last year at CDSG. Together with CEPIA, (a local community service group that serves children in our area who live at or below the poverty level), CDSG parents, students and teachers will work towards the betterment of our community. Some possible activities will include: · Partnering with a sister school in Huacas or Brasilito o Sharing ideas o Attending one another's celebrations and programs o Helping with building upkeep and maintenance o Building friendships between children of each school · Beach clean ups · Yard sales to benefit others · Read-a-thon to raise money for CEPIA backpacks and school supplies for local children · Helping local families in need · Helping folks who have been affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes and flooding .....and LOTS more! We need your ideas and your help! This activity is open to parents, students (grades 2 through 12) and teachers! If you are community minded and like to help others, this is the group for you! We will meet every Monday from 2:45-3:45. Please email Sarah Haun at

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

The upper school had a team building event they called an "Ice Breaker" in order to give all returning and new students a chance to get to know everyone. The teachers participated as well. As you can tell from the photos below everyone had a terrific time. Great idea SGA!

Flu Prevention
|
Please remember to watch your children for any symptoms of the flu. If your child has a fever, upset stomach, or congestion please keep him/her home and consult a doctor before coming back to school. If a child has the flu he/she should be kept at home until at least 24 hours after the symptoms have gone. In the mean time we will be watching carefully and will immediately call parents to pick up any child that is showing symptoms of the flu. We are also asking the students to wash their hands regularly. Providing them with a small bottle of hand sanitizer that can be kept at school is a great idea. Thank you for your help and cooperation in this matter.

Emergency Phone Tree
|
|
Please be sure that Katia has your current home and cell number to add to our Emergency Phone Tree. This is important for us in case we have an emergency announcement or school closure due to weather or other unforeseen event. This helps us to disseminate information as quickly as possible to everyone in our school community.
