Dear CDSG Community,
I hope that this letter finds you well and anticipating the holiday season with your families. It has been a wonderful month full of excitement and now we all have the chance for some much needed “down time.” I hope that you take advantage of every moment as a chance to reconnect with your loved ones.
We said goodbye to four students this month. Saying goodbye to Taylor Smith, Alexander Taylor, Nyia Njamfa and Jackson Haun was very difficult. In this area and at school, we are used to hellos and goodbyes and know that transitions are a part of our world but that still does not make it any easier. I wish our departing students the best of luck in their new schools and in their new environments. As the song says, “Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold.” You are like gold to us and we won’t soon forget you.
We are anticipating quite a few new students who will join us in January. Please join me in welcoming all of them and their families. I will hold a “New Parent Get Together” at my home on Thursday, January 19th from 5:00 until 7:00. New and existing families are welcome to attend! Let’s get to know our new families and welcome them to CDSG!
Our Lower School holiday program was a huge success. The evening’s theme was “The Polar Express” and I truly felt as if I was carried away to the North Pole as the Lower School students sang, danced and performed on stage. Thank you to the teachers, especially Lizzie Coon and to Caralee Burton who helped to make it all possible. What a lovely evening and a great way to kick off the holiday season.
I am pleased to announce or accreditation teams for this upcoming re-accreditation with Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges: Internal Coordinators: Scott Muller and Tyra Bauer Planning Team: Amanda Bustos, Crystal Cullimore, Kim Baldwin, Kristin Craig, Gaylord Towley, Andrea Esquivel, Margarita Elizondo, Sarah Haun, Alonzo Lara, Greg Ezzel, Bjorn Weisser, Carol Ferguson, Walter Augustine, Gayle Almquist, Cheryl Mckillican, Maureen Thompson, Diane Rashid, and Urania Missoten.
The student planning team will be announced after the holidays. Thank you to all of you who volunteered to be on our committees. I appreciate your help on the teams and your support for our school.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and may all the true gifts of the season be yours; may your days be filled with friendship, family and love.

- School Photos and Yearbooks
School photos have been taken. If your child was not present for his/her photo, Ms. Kristin will take his/her photo for the yearbook as there are no photo retakes. The 2011-2012 CDSG Yearbook will be on sale. The cost of the yearbook is $32 and payment is due by January 21st, 2012. We will print only the amount of yearbooks that have been pre-ordered. Use your order form to order or see Natalia in the front office. School photo money is due by January 21st. If you need an additional photo order form, please see Natalia in the front office or your child’s classroom teacher.
In total, we raised $1,366 for school supplies for CEPIA children. In January, we will be taking a group of students to CEPIA to help package the school supplies and distribute them to the children who need them. Thank you for your support!
- Note about the Holiday in Paradise Gala from Pam Hulme
I want to explain what happened with the Carolina Lodge Bid Sheet, being valued considerably higher than reality. I went through the Bid Sheets Friday night and realized we were missing this one. I typed it up and accidentally did not change the numbers from the previous sheet, the JW Marriott. (The Gift Certicate another mom made stated $300.) The person who solicited the certificate originally, brought it to my attention at the gala and I forgot to change it. We did lower the price to the bidder to reflect the correct percentage of value, which was $125. This was a human error, my apologies.
Please remember that every Tuesday from 2:45-3:45 I will be available in the library for parents who would like to come, share ideas and concerns. This is in an effort to keep our Parent Committee meetings focused on the agenda. I invite you to come to this time whenever you wish!
