In the Garden!

Director's Corner

I apologize for the long wait between newsletters. There are so many things going on, as usual, that we can hardly find time to breathe around here sometimes. Spring seems to always get everybody moving with field trips, sports, tests, last chances to bring grades up to where we want them, and of course awards events and graduations. This is also my busiest time of year for talking with new families applying for next year.  I have families scheduled for visits almost every week into June. It is apparent that Guanacaste is still the first choice of many families considering moving to Costa Rica. That's good news for us and for our local businesses.

Please open all of your emails, even though there are so many, to keep up with all of the upcoming events. We sent a calendar to everyone as an email attachment and it should be on the website already, but I have included one in this newsletter as well. Have you logged on to www.cdsgte.com to look at our new website? We'd like to hear what you think about it. Send me an email with your comments. We will also be sending a survey around to all of our parents with questions about our school. I would like to use the information to help guide our strategic planning and to make action plans in an effort to continually  improve our school and offer the best overall education for all of our students. Your input is very important to us. Read on and I hope you are excited about all of the great things happening at CDSG now and in the future.

Congratulations Class of 2010!

So far we have Jesse Curtis going to the University of Northern Colorado, Marianna Calvo to LIM in New York City, Alex Ferguson to NYU, Drake Ballard to Austin, Tyler Munyon to Lynn College in Florida, and Sophia Columbari has been accepted to Stanford on a full scholarship. We should be very proud of our students and their teachers who have helped them get in to such great schools. Our mission at CDSG is to prepare our students to be able to attend and succeed at the finest universities around the world. Most of these schools were the top choices for these students, so dreams really have come true for them and their parents. We are so proud of them all!

Mano A Mano!

Dear Parents,

Mano a Mano will be working with the Brasilito Catholic Church in an effort to put together a "Feria de la Communidad!"  The scheduled date for this Community Fair is May 30th and this event will include a garage sale, games, soccer games, Bingo, food and lots more!  All proceeds will be put towards finishing the community center at the church. The walls are there but they are still lacking electricty, plumbing, etc. Let's help them finish it up!

Here is how you can help!  Please bring in any items (toys, clothes, appliances, furniture, etc.) to donate to the sale.  Please bring these items into the front office.  Also, mark your calendars for the event and bring your friends and family!  It will be a great time.

The event begins at 9:00 am, there will be Bingo at 2:00 pm and the event will close at 5:00 pm.  If you have questions, please see Lucrecia Columbari or email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hope to see you there!

Lower School Dance

Lower School SGA will sponsor a Pre-K through Grade 4 Dance on Friday, April 23rd from 2:30 until 4:30.  All students are invited!  Games, dancing and prizes and fun for all!  Admission is $5 and proceeds benefit Lower School SGA! Come join the fun!

Pi Day

Pi Day was lots of fun!  Leading up to Pi Day, students memorized as many digits of Pi as they could.Winners had the opportunity to throw a pie at the teacher (or administrator) of their choice.  6th grader Dane Torres memorized the most digits at 55!  He chose to throw a pie at Mr. Haun. We captured the results below.  Enjoy!

Model United Nations

If you have a son or daughter in the Upper School please encourage him/her to be a part of the Model United Nations group that will be going to Lincoln School in San Jose later this semester to participate in an amazing event. This is a fantastic experience and a wonderful opportunity to enrich their college portfolios! See Mark Sluzky or Kim Baldwin for more information.

New Teachers for Next Year

We have already hired six new teachers and dorm counselors for next year that we are very excited about. I will be giving more information about them in an upcoming edition of the newsletter.   We are very excited about how they will enrich our program.
