CDSG Agenda

Dear CDSG Community,

We are back into the swing of things at school. Monday our after school activities start and then we will really be busy! I hope that you are all as excited as I am. We are offering many new activities including golf, computers, German language and many, many more. I am excited to present Tyra Bauer as our new girls' basketball coach and Kristin Craig as our new CDSG swim team coach! I am really looking forward to the next sports day when our kids can show off their skills. I hope you will join me on Saturday, February 4th as we come together to play, socialize and have fun together. It will be an all day event so bring your lawn chair, your CDSG Pirate seat cushion, and your red and black pom poms and have some fun!

We welcomed two new dorm students to our campus in January. Sophia Then and Axel Getz joined us! We are so happy to have them with us this semester!

As we continue to focus on initiative this month, I hope that you will take the initiative to welcome a new person to our school. As Cynthia said today while reading a story about new kids to our Lower School, a smile can go a long way. New parents and students love to be included and feel welcome. Please join me in making them feel a part of our very special community.

Our first re-accreditation planning team meeting will take place this Tuesday at 2:45. I am excited to embark on this adventure in making CDSG the best little school it can be.

Sadly, next week we will say goodbye to Willie Byfield. Willie has been with CDSG for the past year and a half and has done a great job in the dormitory, helping with our sports program and helping with security. Willie will move to San Jose where he will be a pastor to street children. We wish him the best of luck in all of his endeavors and we will miss him at CDSG.

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Sincerely,

Sarah Haun

  • After School Activities

All after school activities begin this Monday, January 23rd. Your child should be picked up at 3:45 in the waiting area, not in the classroom. If you have after school activity changes, please contact Rebecca in the front office at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

This money goes towards uniform rental, pays for referees, trophies, etc. Please get a booster club form from your child's coach and turn all money and forms into Rebecca in the front office.

  • Middle School Community Service Supply Drive

Please help us help El Llanito School get the school supplies they need! Bring in the following: Monday – pencils, Tuesday – notebook paper, Wednesday – colored pencils, Thursday – construction paper, Friday – plain, white printer paper. The class that participates and brings in the most supplies gets a free dress day!!

  • Book Fair

The Book Fair is scheduled for April however we will start sending the catalogues home for children to choose and order the books they would like! Lower School teachers will send each child home with a catalogue for ordering. We only have a few catalogues so each child will only have one night to choose and order books. Please see the instructions that come home with your child on his/her day. Additionally, For all Middle and Upper School Parents: The catalog is quite extensive and offers many books for Grades 6-12. If your son/daughter is interested in ordering any, please contact Pam at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it /8355.9993 for a catalog.

  • CEPIA School Supplies Packaging Trip

Remember way back in November, our Lower School raised nearly $1,400 to purchase school supplies for CEPIA students? It is time to package them up and get them ready for delivery in time for the start of school in February. If you are interested in your child participating on Thur

  • P.E. Excuses

If your child is too sick to play at P.E., he/she will come to the school office and spend the period in there. A written excuse (written by a parent or doctor) must accompany your child either on the day of the sickness or injury or within 24 hours afterwards. While in the office, your child will not be permitted to use his/her computer or phone but may read or do homework.

  • Parent Surveys

All parents are asked to fill out an online survey through "Survey Monkey" in an effort to kick start our reaccreditation. A link to the survey will be sent home to all parents early next week. The survey will take between 30 minutes and one hour to complete. Please take the time to fill this out. The more information we have, the more effective we can be in assessing our school's needs. Thank you!

  • Facebook

Please check out our CDSG Facebook page! It contains lots of photos and school related information.

  • Earphones, phones, iPods…..

Please remind your child that headphones will not be allowed in the classroom. Students may listen to music during their breaks but students are not permitted to listen to music or have headphones out and visible during class time. Thank you!

  • Golden Garbage Can

We take great pride in our school. We have a beautiful campus and we need to keep it that way! Each week, we will choose a classroom that is clean on the inside and out. This means that lockers are closed and have locks on them, there is no garbage on the ground around the classroom, items are stored in lockers or on top of lockers and not on the floor, backpacks are on hooks inside the classrooms, etc. The class that does this each week will win the "Golden Garbage Can" award. The Golden Garbage Can will be filled with something tasty or fun so be prepared and let's take initiative to make our school SHINE!

  • Sports Day and Silent Auction

Our next Sports Day will be held on Saturday, February 4th. We will also have a silent auction on that day. Please see information from the Parent Committee below:

There are some great Silent Auction items available for purchase from our Holiday in Paradise gala.  We had a few duplicate donations, along with some items that didn't get the display exposure they deserved.  These will be displayed on Saturday, February 4th at our next all school Sports Day. For students: Lunch Line Server, La Paz Waterfall Gardens Tour for 20 (located at the Peace Lodge), "Pinilla Beach Party" with Mr. Townley, "Adventure Day" on Dante Beach with Mr. Tom and Mr. Chapman, "Paddleboarding Adventure" with Kim and Dan Baldwin, "Sports Day Party" with Mr. Diego, Mr. Willie, and Mr. Vargas, Gatekeeper for 30 Minutes. For families:  VIP Parking Space for a Month, Mailboxes, Etc. service for 2 months, Toh Gouttenoire Photography portrait session. Personal:  Various massages from Carolina Varela, Two Rounds of Golf at Hacienda Pinilla, Elm Twig Mobile Site Generator Membership.

  • Locks

Please remember that all 6th through 12th graders need locks for their lockers. Anything found in a locker without a lock will be taken to the office "Lost and Found" for the students to pick up. Obviously, this is a hassle for them so please encourage them to keep their lockers locked at all times. Thank you!

  • Dress Code

Please help us in reinforcing the dress code with all students.  Students must come to school each day in a clean, school uniform.  White t-shirts can be worn underneath uniform shirts but colored t-shirts are not permitted. Additionally, hats and flip-flops, slippers or sandals are not permitted.  Shoes must cover the entire foot. I have been reminding several students of the above this week.  If students choose not to follow the school dress code, they will be sent to the office where parents will be called.  They will not be permitted to return to class until they have the proper clothing.  They will not be able to make up any work that is missed due to their absence.

  • Absences and Tardiness

Please call or email the office if your child will be absent or late. If there is no call or email to the office to indicate an excused absence, the work which your child misses will not be able to be made up. Please keep absences to a minimum. It is difficult for teachers to help students catch up if they have missed a lot of school. If your child is late to school, (arrives after 7:30 in the morning), he or she must come into the office for a tardy slip. Please know that it is very disruptive to class and to the other students when students come to school late. Thank you for your consideration!

  • Parent/Student Handbooks

Rebecca will be sending home Parent Student Handbooks to all new parents. Please let me know if you do not receive the handbook next week. It is important for you to go over this handbook with your child so that you are all aware of school rules and policies.

  • Coffee Talks

Please remember that every Tuesday from 2:45-3:45 I will be available in the library for parents who would like to come, share ideas and concerns. This is in an effort to keep our Parent Committee meetings focused on the agenda. I invite you to come to this time whenever you wish!

  • Thank you Cynthia Koerner for coming to our Lower School Friday assembly and reading a book about taking initiative when making friends. We enjoyed the story and it gave us a lot to think about this week, especially with so many new students here at school this semester. Take the initiative and SMILE at someone today!
  • Kudos to Amanda Bustos and Gaylord Townley for organizing the Middle School El Llanito School Supply Drive! Take the initiative to bring in school supplies this week for children in need! See the Agenda (above) for details regarding that to bring in!
  • Kudos to our Upper School SGA officers for planning an amazing Capture the Flag evening last Friday night! We had over 60 kids here playing, laughing, eating and having a great time together. It was an amazing community event and I am so proud of our organizers Lilly Pandis, Margo Wilson, Brenda Nunez, Morgan Osborne, Amelia Worrell and all of the teachers who chaperoned the event including Mr. Baldwin, Ms. Tyra, Ms. Deirdre, Mr. Muller and Mr. Chapman.
