Last week's Independence Day Festival was a huge success thanks to the efforts of our teachers and support staff. Special thanks to Monica Riascos, Carol Sluzky, and Kim Baldwin who organized many of the activities. Our Parent Committee and Booster Club did a phenomenal job bringing in people to serve and help raise funds for the upper school AASCA events coming up. I have to also give a big hoorah to our support staff organized by our opperations manager Vera Naranjo for working so hard to get tables and chairs and desks and all kinds of other equipment together in time for the event on Friday morning. They did a wonderful job and everything looked spectacular. Thanks once again to the support of the Hotel Melia and Sildelau Salcedo as they always offer their banquet materials for our events. These items included everything from chairs to food service items to beautiful plants. And of course we were so happy to have the support of all of the local schools in attendance!
Fun at the Huacas Dia de los Independencia parade!
**For those of you wondering about whether or not the high school students attended any of the events, YES THEY DID! We in the newspaper office, however, are waiting patiently for pictures of fabulous field trips, independence day activities, and other events to be sent to us so that we can add them to our weekly newsletter.
Next week!

Pre K to 1st Grade Trip

 <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
We had a great field trip to the Pacific Plants and GardensVivero near Santa Cruz. We learned about some of the different jobs at a plant nursery and saw many different types of plants and flowers. We learned about the fact that some plants like sun and some prefer shade. We talked about the fact that some plants protect themselves with spikes,(like cacti.) We also talked about products that are made with plants. We talked about the food we were eating at lunch and which things in our lunches were made from plants. The students were surprised that their cookies are actually made from plants! The children planted their own sunflowers and palm trees and brought them home to take care of. Thank you Merylis Herz for inviting us and showing us such a great time!

Emergency Phone Tree &
Planning Committee
|
|
Please be sure that Katia has your current home and cell number to add to our Emergency Phone Tree. This is important for us in case we have an emergency announcement or school closure due to weather or other unforeseen event. This helps us to disseminate information as quickly as possible to everyone in our school community.
We will also have our first meeting of the emergency planning committee in order to begin forming a solid and effective plan in case of a major emergency in the area such as an earthquake, flood, or fire. As soon as we have formed the plan we will distribute it to the community. Thank you to Maylynn and J.R. Wilson, Jerry Hirsch, Brenda Sloan and Leyden Bricen for volunteering to meet with myself and selected teachers on this committee.
