Pirate Basketball Pep Rally Madness!!!!

It's hard to believe that Halloween is almost here and then a few weeks later it will be Thanksgiving Break. Time flies by again. Over the past two weeks we've had our typical busy schedule with basketball games at La Paz, in Liberia at Teocali, and at home against Lakeside School and Teocali. This week the teams head to San Jose for the biggest international tournament of the year against schools from Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala and other schools in Costa Rica. It will be an exciting and nerve racking event to be sure. Games will take place over three days. Our players, coaches, and fans are excited about our chances this year. Last year we won the award for outstanding sportsmanship and I hope that we continue to strive towards that goal. The Varsity teams did very well against Teocali last Friday as the boys took the game all the way to the end, only losing by four points, and then the girls were able to beat the varsity girls' team. Go Pirates!
There are still lots of events coming up, including more basketball next Friday in Liberia, Halloween for CDSG and kids from Huacas school on Friday the 30th, and baseball on Saturday mornings continues for any boys or girls interested in coming out to play. We will also have our monthly all school awards assembly on the 30th at 8:30 a.m. in the cafetorium to present our student of the month awards and all are welcome.
Congratulations to Julieta for running an 8k race last weekend in support of Finding A Cure For Breast Cancer ! You go Julieta!
I'd also like to send out a special thank you to the Lakeside School for coming out to our school and playing basketball two weeks ago. We had a lot of fun and our kids were terrific together. I hope to see many more events together between our schools in the future.
Happy Fall and enjoy this edition of the CDSG News.

Fiesta de Amistad con Escuela de Huacas
We had our first Friendship Party with Escuela de Huacas last Friday and it was fantastic! We played games and ate and danced and sang and made crafts together. Most importantly, we also made many new friends. I think that we'll have many more partiesand other activities together in the future! Thank you to Mano A Mano for planting the seed and doing all of the initial planning, a huge thank you to all of our parent volunteers and teachers who came out to help on the night before and the day of the event. You're awesome. It is our hope that CDSG can continue to build relationships with local schools and families in our area as a way to further involve our students in the wonderful cultural and community experiences available in Guanacaste.

We've Adopted A Little Buoy!
Hello All,
Just wanted to let you know that the Marine Bio class is going to adopt a buoy (along with a co-U.S. School) through a program with the NOAA Climate Program Office. Its a neat thing....we'll send in stickers, index cards with our names on it to jazz the drifter up. Photos of it will be taken on deck and then it will be deployed...(tossed in the drink). A satellite will track the drone and we will be able to watch "our buoy" from a website. Some may be able to sense temp, salinity, DO, Carbon, chlorophyll...all kinds of information untill finally the thing is either picked up, sinks, is used as target practice by nasty gun toting sailors....or it runs into an island. Neat, huh? (and its free) I'll send out the photos when it is deployed.

Emergency Phone Tree
Please be sure that Katia has your current home and cell number to add to our Emergency Phone Tree. This is important for us in case we have an emergency announcement or school closure due to weather or other unforeseen event. This helps us to disseminate information as quickly as possible to everyone in our school community.
