Director's Corner

Happy November to you already. It seems as though we have skipped the rainy season this year. We didn't have any flood days! The weather is beautiful now and we hope the crowds of tourists will be arriving to busy your businesses very soon. We have been as busy as ever and will continue our tradition of keeping our plates full of activities for all of our studentss. We have just completed the AASCA basketball tournament in San Jose and our students had a terrific time. Our girls team actually finished in a tie for second place! Congratulations to all of them for their hard work and hard play. We are proud of all of our athletes for their effort and especially for how well they represented our school through good sportsmanship. I also would like to thank our booster club and other parents who made the trip to San Jose in support of our kids and coaches. It really meant a lot. We couldn't do it without your support.

AASCA Third Place

But the biggest thanks of all has to go to our coaches, Mrs. Sluzky (and Mr. Sluzky) and Mr. Johnstone. They all put in hours and hours of time with your kids preparing them for this trip all at their own expense. They dedicted themselves to their teams for the past few months, often without any notice. The amount of time and committment it takes to coach a team through an entire season is tremendous. It's because of teachers like them, and those who lead our student clubs and all of the other activities we do throughout the year, that we are able to offer so many activities to our kids. Dances, talent shows, plays, tournaments, holiday celebrations, after school activities, field trips, community service, fundraisers, recycling, and on and on. They all do it for free. They do it because they care about our students and want them to have a full and diverse educational experience. We are lucky to have such a great crew. Thank you!

Mr. Haun Gets Carried Away Sometimes...

We also had a fantastic Halloween celebration here on campus that involved trick or treating in the classrooms, lots of fun booths for fun and prizes, a costume competition, and a haunted house that had the kids screaming throughout the evening (I still owe Jessie a good scare for grabbing my leg and causing me to jump off the stage). The NHS and other student and parent volunteers did an amazing job. Thank you especially to Kim for organizing the Haunted House! And now she is busy organizing the Coffee House evening. She's our energizer bunny. Amazing. Please take time to thank her for all of the time she puts in to organize these great events that have become a tradition at CDSG.

Read-A-Thon Early Results Are In!!!

joereader

The Read-A-Thon began today and as I load some early pictures I have some early results in. It seems as though the students are well on there way to surpassing their goal of reading more than 2000 pages today! It is an effort to raise as much money as they can to help local school children buy enough school supplies to attend school in January. Enjoy the pictures and I will have more information for you in the next edition of the Weekly News!
