Important Information:
Full Time Boarders: Room and board is provided during the regular school year from 2 days before the commencement of the first semester to 2 days after the termination of the second semester. Room and board is not provided during extended breaks such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break, at which time boarders are required to return home or make other arrangements, approved by parent or guardian and school authorities, to remain in country with a designated host family.
Five Day Boarders: Five-day boarding is for local students who return home on weekends and holidays.
Included in Room and Board: Dorm room (usually shared), three meals a day, consumable workbooks, on-loan text books, school supplies, lab, locker, art supplies, school activities, school mandated trips, field trips, and regular program school-wide activities
Not included in Tuition, Room and Board: Additional snacks or drinks consumed in between meals, school and PE uniforms, AP, SAT, and pSAT exam fees, emergency medical costs, out patient services, long-distance telephone calls and fax transmissions, graphing calculators, transfer costs to and from alternate ports of entry and departure from Costa Rica, visa and travel documentation, emergency evacuation, special activities such as sailing lessons, flying lessons, equestrian lessons, and any other costs not associated with daily school activities or the school’s mission.
Guarantee and Damage Deposit: A refundable deposit of $1000 is required upon initial admission to cover payment of such costs as emergency medical services (ambulance service, out patient treatment, and the like) and to cover charges for damage assessments or lost books. The deposit for 5-day boarders is $500.00.
Pocket Money Deposit: A deposit of $1,000 for pocket money is required to consume cafeteria snacks and drinks in between meals, purchase uniforms, and is used to replace lost, damaged, or worn-out personal items. Each student’s account is managed by the school. Statements may be sent home upon request, and the account may need to be replenished depending on the student’s use. This deposit does not apply to 5-day boarders.
Student Insurance: It is imperative that all boarders come with their own private medical and dental coverage. Proof of coverage must be submitted before the start of classes. The parent or guardian must sign a contract which grants the school the right to act in ‘loco parentis’ in the case of a medical emergency.
Special Education Services: CDS may charge additional fees for special education services or programs outside its stated mission or programs of studies that the school may be called upon to provide. All relevant documentation regarding special learning needs must be presented with the student’s application
Payment Schedule:
Full-time Boarders/ Five Day Boarders: Upon acceptance of a student by the school, the matriculation fee is due immediately to guarantee the space. Thereafter, 70% of the year’s boarding fees are due prior to the commencement of classes and 30% are due prior to the end of the first semester. Students wishing to attend for one semester only pay 55% of the full-year’s fees, as detailed above. The matriculation fee and either 70% of the boarding fees (for full-year students) OR 55% of the boarding fees (for ½ year students), must be received by the school prior to the student’s arrival on campus. The emergency money and spending money accounts must be replenished when necessary, as requested by the school. For students enrolling in mid-session, the aforementioned fees must be received prior to the student’s arrival at CDSG. |
